As a key decision taken during a meeting held at Janata Bhawan on Monday, Assam Govt has announced to amend the rules for recruitment of women cops in the Assam Police.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has directed Mukesh Sahay, DGP, Assam Police to set up a cell which will take up all the cases of crime against women in the state. As per Sonowal's direction, the cell will also ensure quick investigation against any such case.

As per norms, the Assam Police should have 30% women personnel in its force, including the officers and constables.

Considering the fact that most women fail to perform well during the physical tests, the Assam Govt has decided to amend the rules for recruitment of women in Assam Police Force.

The decision has been taken after the issue of rising cases of crime against women was debated upon in the Assam Legislative Assembly.
