The 'Unity Mall' seeks to showcase the diverse range of indigenous handicrafts and GI-tagged products from Assam and other states. The project, announced by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the 2023-24 budget, aims to establish similar malls across state capitals and prominent tourism or financial centres.
The 'Unity Mall' is being constructed under Part-VI of the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment 2023-24. Spanning an area of 18,259.3 sq metres, the mall will occupy the backyard space presently available in the complex of Maniram Dewan Trade Centre.
CM Sarma emphasised the importance of the mall in promoting Assam's unique handicrafts and providing a platform for entrepreneurs to showcase their products. The mall will feature designated areas for all districts of Assam and other states to display and sell their creative works, alongside made-in-India products.
