This was revealed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while talking to the media after inaugurating the redeveloped terminal of the existing airport on Wednesday, February 5.

"The new-look Terminal 1 now has a frontage of 1000 square metres instead of the earlier 270 square metres," Sarma said, while an additional 900 square metres of footpaths has been facilitated for smoother pedestrian movement.

Entry and departure lanes have also been expanded, with entry lanes increasing from eight to 14 and departure lanes from three to four.

Additionally, four new DigiYatra gates have been installed to streamline check-in procedures.

Security check-in facilities have also received a boost, with the screening area expanding from 300 square metres to 450 square metres. More screening queues and upgraded furniture have been introduced to improve efficiency and reduce waiting time for passengers.

Finally, the airport’s aesthetics have also been enhanced, with the construction of a 140-metre architectural wall and the addition of 300 square metres of new gardens.
