GUWAHATI: The new State Cancer Institute building was inaugurated in Guwahati on March 2.

This being the 9th cancer hospital in the state, was built at a cost of ₹395 crore.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also posted on X about the same saying that eight more such hospitals are being constructed across the state.
He further mentioned in the tweet that over ₹ 3,600 crore is being invested in world-class cancer care network in Assam.
“A giant leap towards Cancer Care. We are investing over ₹ 3,600cr to build a world class cancer care network in Assam. Today, we inaugurated the 9th cancer hospital, built at a cost of ₹395cr. Eight more such hospitals are being constructed,” CM Sarma’s tweet read.
The State Cancer Institute is equipped with 350 beds along with modern, state-of-the-art facilities like OTs, ICUs, Cath Labs etc and top-notch features like radiation, chemo, bone marrow transplant, etc. During the inauguration of the new building, CM Sarma stated that this would be the first government hospital in the Northeast offering robotic surgery.
Additionally, CM Sarma also inaugurated a new blood centre and expanded the emergency block at Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH), at an estimated cost of ₹3.88 crore.
The CM has also released financial assistance to 1 lakh beneficiaries under the Swach Bharat Mission to promote sanitation initiatives.
