GUWAHATI: A new species of frog, previously unknown to science, has been described from preserved samples stored in the Herpetological Research Laboratory of Arya Vidyapeeth College.

Talking to GPlus, a senior official from Arya Vidyapeeth College said, " It is named Leptobrachium aryatium, the species belongs to the genus Leptobrachium. The name has been derived from “Arya” referring to Arya Vidyapeeth College and “-tium”, a suffix used to denote honour—together signifying a tribute to the institution."
He further added, "The discovery has been formally published in Zootaxa, a peer-reviewed scientific journal with a global readership (ISSN 1175-5334, online edition). "
