GUWAHATI: The Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan which is set to be implemented by the Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ASRLM) Society under the Panchayat and Rural Development (P&RD) Department to promote members of self-help groups (SHGs) as entrepreneurs, has been approved to be executed in phases by the Assam Government in the State Cabinet meeting on January 7.
The scheme, expected to uplift and empower rural women entrepreneurs, will provide eligible SHG members with a ₹10,000 Entrepreneurship Fund in Phase I to initiate at least one enterprise. In Phase II, a minimum ₹25,000 bank loan will be availed by SHG members, with the government providing 50% or ₹12,500 as Capital Subsidy upon loan repayment.
However, specific eligibility criteria, including the maintenance of active Aadhar-seeded savings accounts, non-default status, and family planning compliance, have been outlined, with restrictions on childbearing for eligibility. Emphasis has been put on the importance of education for girl children, linking eligibility to school attendance.
