New Quarantine Centre: GU Asks Boarders to Vacate Hostels

GUWAHATI: Gauhati University vide a notice, passed information to all concerned persons, that the Disaster Management Authority of Kamrup Metro has requisitioned all the Boys' Hostels except Venkata Rao Research Scholars Boys' Hostel (RCC-5) and Babu Jagjivan Ram Hostel of Gauhati University with effect from 25-05-2020. They are to be used as Quarantine Centres under the following provisions:

(1) The Assam COVID-19 Regulations, 2020 and 

(2) Under the Section 65(1) A and 66 of Disaster Management Act, 2005 

In view of this, all the boarders were informed, as endorsed by an emergent meeting of all the Wardens with the University authority, to arrange to collect their necessary items from respective Hostels on or before 27th May, 2020.

Further, the notice also strongly advised that they collect their necessary items at the earliest without waiting for the last date, as the Disaster Management Authority (Kamrup Metro) may take possession of the hostels at any moment. 

The Boarders who cannot manage to collect their belongings shall inform their respective wardens about their inability. 

In any event of boarders not being able to collect any item, the wardens are requested to keep the belongings in safe custody in the respective hostels by arranging necessary logistics. 

Students from distant places will be allowed to stay only for 1 night in their rooms, if necessary. Further, wardens were requested to ensure the presence of all the hostel employees on the days mentioned.
