Nehru Stadium Soon To Be Upgraded To Olympic Level, Says Assam CM

GUWAHATI: The Nehru Stadium, located at B Borooah Road in Guwahati, will be soon upgraded and turned into an Olympic-level football stadium, announced Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. 

The State Government has plans to invest ₹600 crore for the upgradation with the aim of turning it into the best football stadium of India. This was announced by the Assam Chief Minister in his speech while inaugurating the High-Performance Sports Training and Rehabilitation Centre at Sarusajai Sports Complex in Guwahati on January 25. 

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also announced the same on X, where he said, “We are going to build India's best football Stadium in Guwahati which will be replete with best in class facilities. We are also vying for the National Games in the next 3-4 years and building stadiums with Integrated residential facilities in Amingaon, Chandrapur and Guwahati.” 

CM Sarma also announced that the State Government has begun building a multi-purpose stadium at Amingaon and construction work for a new multi-purpose stadium will soon begin at Chandrapur which will include adequate facilities for players’ accommodation with new hostels being built. 

The Chief Minister further announced that the Assam Government is planning to build a new games village and the State will soon host the National Games here in the coming years.
