GUWAHATI: The Dargah Road stretch from Hatigaon Chariali towards Notboma in Guwahati has once again turned into a waterlogged nightmare after recent showers, leaving commuters and pedestrians wading through ankle-deep filthy water.

The stagnant water has exposed the lack of basic civic amenities in the area, with residents claiming that the locality has long been overlooked by authorities. Locals allege that poor drainage, crumbling roads and non-functional street lights have made everyday life increasingly difficult.
“The entire stretch becomes a mess every time it rains. We’ve been demanding proper roads and lights for years, but no one listens. It feels like we don’t belong to Guwahati city,” said a frustrated resident who chose to remain anonymous.
Despite public outcry, little action has been taken. The Public Works Department (PWD) admitted that drainage work near the area remains incomplete and has worsened due to the rains. Speaking to GPlus, a PWD official stated, “We have been constructing drains near the locality. But, it has not been completed yet and the rain made it vulnerable. As the monsoon is near there is not much we could do to mend the area now.”
The official further mentioned that a previous plan under the Town and Country Planning Department had proposed redirecting drainage water towards Khanka. “But that won’t be possible this season,” the official confirmed.
"If the problem persists, we will clear the clogged part with the help of GMC super suckers," the official further added.
With the onset of the monsoon approaching, residents fear that the current situation is only a prelude to more severe waterlogging and civic failure in the coming months. The authorities, however, appear to have accepted the impending crisis with little urgency or accountability.
For now, the residents of Dargah Road are left to fend for themselves, yet again bracing for a monsoon season marred by administrative indifference.
