NEET Aspirant Commits Suicide in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: A Guwahati girl committed suicide on Saturday, September 12, just a day ahead of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) entrance exam on Sunday. The girl reportedly died at her relative’s house and left behind three suicide notes for her mother, father, and her sibling.

G Plus spoke to ACP Panbazar, Maitreyee Deka, who revealed that in her suicide note, the girl told her mother and father “to stay well”.

"The girl has written three suicide notes. The NEET angle is pertinent because she committed suicide just a day before the exam," Deka told G Plus.

The incident comes at a time when an increasing number of suicides have been reported from various parts of India relating to the exam. Earlier, an 18-year-old NEET aspirant died of suicide in Madurai on Saturday. The deceased, Jyoti Durga, left a suicide note wherein she mentioned her fears of failure in the exam.

Meanwhile, the issue has been raised in Parliament. "I would like to draw the attention of this House & the govt to the plight of 12 students who had committed suicide - all from a rural background - because of NEET exam. They had passed plus 2 through state board & NEET is conducted only in CBSE syllabus," TR Baalu, DMK MP said in the Lok Sabha.
