Amidst all the chaos that the release of the Complete Draft NRC has led in the state of Assam, a new case of misinformation by a leading national media house has come to light.

NDTV, on August 2nd published and shared a news item on their social channels with the headline, “Assam BJP Lawmaker's Nephew Not On Citizen's List, Says "It Happens.”

The story carried a photograph of BJP MP Bijoya Chakravarty and Jaydip Phukan, who is a resident of Guwahati.

The news published on NDTV terms Jaydip as the MP's 'nephew' and alleges that Jaydip's name was missed out from the NRC list since he was outside the country. The media house has also quoted the MP as saying, “He has filed a review and he is getting it. Sometimes, it happens. It will be corrected."

When Jaydip came across the NDTV news items he wrote in his Facebook wall that the news published by NDTV was wrong in several contexts.

Jaydip clarified in his post that he is not the 'nephew' of MP Bijoya Chakravarty unlike what  the media house had stated. Moreover Jaydip’s name has been listed in the Complete Draft NRC, along with his family members.

Jaydip, talking to G Plus said that the wrong news published by the national media house has brought mental harassment to him. “I am not her nephew, I'm just a family friend. This image has been taken from my Facebook page without my permission. I'm badly humiliated since my nationality is being questioned,” said Jaydip.

Jaydip has also written an official mail to the media house asking them to remove the image from their irrelevant news.

The news was written by Sonal Mehrotra Kapoor.

Jaydip tried contacting Kapoor to make the correction but has not received any answer from the journalist.
