Nationwide Strike Called by Trade Unions on Nov 26, Guwahati to Have a Few Relaxations

GUWAHATI: Ten central trade unions have called for a nationwide general strike on 26th November 2020. Around 25 crore workers are expected to participate in this nationwide bandh tomorrow. 


The trade unions' strike is in protest against the Centre’s policies, such as privatisation of public sector units and new labour and farm laws, as per Times Now.

Ten organisations that have together called for the bandh. These include Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Hind Mazdoor Sabha (HMS), Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), All India United Trade Union Centre (AIUTUC), Trade Union Co-ordination Centre (TUCC), Self-Employed Women's Association (SEWA), All India Central Council of Trade Unions (AICCTU), Labour Progressive Federation (LPF) and United Trade Union Congress (UTUC).


G Plus spoke to CITU Leader of Jorhat Unit who stated that the bandh has been called in Assam as well. "We are protesting against the central government's anti-workers and anti-farmer policies," added the leader.


As per the union leaders, the strike has been supported by transport, LIC, and bank unions. This might lead to disruption of transport services across the state owing to the strike. 


However, there will be a few relaxations in Guwahati. G Plus spoke to Pratul Barman of CITU Guwahati Unit, who stated, "Due to the funeral of former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, there will be a few relaxations." The All India Road Transport Federation has also supported the strike. As such, there will be no bus services. 


In Guwahati, there will be exemption till 11 AM instead of the earlier 9 AM due to the funeral of Tarun Gogoi. Barman further said, "The public transport services will be affected all over the state." 


The CITU will be demonstrating in front of the DC office tomorrow.
