National Board For Wildlife Approves Five Key Projects for Assam, Including Guwahati Ring Road

GUWAHATI: The National Board for Wildlife (NBWL), India's apex body for wildlife-related matters, has given the green light to five crucial projects. These projects aim to enhance connectivity and facilitate development while ensuring minimal impact on the region's rich biodiversity.

The approved projects are:

•    Elevated Corridor near Kaziranga National Park: The approval includes the construction of an elevated corridor near Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its population of Indian rhinoceroses and other wildlife. The elevated corridor aims to improve connectivity while mitigating the risk of wildlife-vehicle collisions in the area.

•    Guwahati Ring Road Project: The approval also covers the Guwahati Ring Road project, which includes the construction of the Narengi-Kurua Bridge. This project aims to enhance connectivity in Guwahati and its surrounding areas, facilitating smoother transportation and reducing traffic congestion.

•    Deepor Beel Railway Elevated Corridor (13.31 Ha): The NBWL has given the green light to the construction of a railway elevated corridor near Deepor Beel, covering an area of 13.31 hectares. This project aims to improve railway infrastructure while minimizing disruption to the wetland ecosystem.

•    Deepor Beel Elevated Railway Corridor (0.3 Ha): Additionally, the NBWL has approved another elevated railway corridor project near Deepor Beel, covering an area of 0.3 hectares.

•    Chapaguri to Amteka Assam Mala Project Road: The approval extends to the Chapaguri to Amteka Assam Mala Project Road, which aims to improve road connectivity up to the Bhutan border. This project is expected to facilitate trade and transportation between Assam and Bhutan, fostering economic development in the region.
