My Dream is to Play for Asian Games 2022: Shivangi Sharma

GUWAHATI: Sports Journalists Welfare Association organised the first Sports Conclave in Deshabhakta Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium, Guwahati on February 3, 2020 where various aspects of sports was discussed by various sports personalities.

Assam's swimmer Shivangi Sharma attended the event. While addressing to the media, the 17-year-old said that her main focus now after Khelo India is Asian Games. "My dream is to play for Asian Games, 2022. It is my main focus at the moment and I will soon be going to Delhi for my training."

Orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Samarjit Khanikar highlighted on the common sports injuries and their remedies.

A panel discussion on Involvement of Public and Private Sector in Sports took place. The panel comprised of Hemanta Kalita (Treasure, Boxing Federation of India), Styabrata Gogoi (Asst. Director Directorate Sports), Anshuman Dutta (Nutritionist), Bipul Handique (Coach, weightlifting) and Hiranya Saikia (Secretary Assam Taekwondo Association).

Saikia said that the government should be spending more for the players of the state for them to go to the international levels. He said, "The government should provide proper dietician, food psychologists and coaching for the players so that they are prepared for international levels."

He then talked about how the Chinese government invests on the players of the country.
