GUWAHATI: As the much-anticipated Durga Puja festivities commenced, a heart-warming story unfolds in Guwahati, where a Muslim man, Deep Ahmed, has crafted a uniquely themed Durga Puja Pandal. Ahmed's belief in the power of art, transcending religious boundaries, takes centre stage as he strives to make a meaningful contribution through his artistic creation.

Speaking to media, Ahmed expressed his deep emotional connection with his work and how it resonates beyond religious affiliations. He shared the joy he experiences when Hindus visit the Pandal to worship the idols he has contributed to creating.

Ahmed's father, Nuruddin Ahmed, has been a dedicated craftsman of Durga idols and pandals since the 1970s. His passion for the art form has influenced both his sons to carry forward this legacy.

This year, the talented artist has designed a Durga Puja pandal with a Mayan theme, infusing a unique cultural twist into the festivities. The Bimala Nagar Durga Puja Committee undertook this remarkable project with the aim of presenting the way of life of the ancient Mayan civilisation that thrived more than 5,000 years ago.

To authentically recreate the intended atmosphere, the artisans employed fire lighting methods, adding an intriguing dimension to the Pandal's ambience. This ambitious project boasts a budget of approximately Rs 30 lakh and is a true masterpiece, utilizing an array of materials, including bamboo, plywood, dhari, and pati in its construction.
