GUWAHATI: Kokrajhar MP Naba Kumar Sarania has warned the Centre to ensure protection of constitutional rights of the non-tribal population of Assam while signing the tripartite agreement with Bodo Rebel group.

It is to be mentioned that the historic accord will be signed today at 1:30 PM.

Meanwhile, the non-Bodo groups- All Koch Rajbongshi Students' Union (AKRSU), All Assam Nath-Yogi Students' Union and the Oboro Suraksha Samiti have boycotted the Republic Day celebration with an indefinite strike from January 27 in the BTAD, opposing the move to upgrade the BTC to a Union Territorial Council (UTC).

Meanwhile, AKRSU adviser Hiteswar Barman, in a press meet said, "Until the government sits with the non-Bodo communities, living in the BTAD, before signing the pact, we will never accept it."

"The government's move to grant special territory to the outfit by ignoring the rights of nearly 22 lakh non-Bodo people living in the BTAD, is unacceptable," said Taison Hussain, general secretary of the All BTC Minority Students' Union.
