GUWAHATI: Guwahati residents are battling a growing mosquito menace, with complaints pouring in from various neighborhoods about the increasing mosquito population. The situation has sparked serious concerns, especially with a rise in dengue cases across Assam.

Talking to GPlus, Swapna Kalita, a resident of Lachit Nagar said, “The sudden increase in mosquitoes is alarming. With dengue cases on the rise, I feel unsafe. GMC has not sprayed in our area yet.”
The situation is no different in Nabin Nagar.
Talking to GPlus, Anupam Goswami, a resident in Nabin Nagar said,"Mosquitoes have increased in recent days. GMC hasn’t taken any action. The dug-up areas and clogged drains in our neighborhood are perfect breeding grounds for mosquitoes.”
Similarly, a resident of Sarumotoria seeking anonymity talking to GPlus said, “Drain construction is ongoing, but many drains remain clogged. Mosquitoes are breeding there, and GMC hasn’t cleaned them. With rising dengue cases, we are worried. What is GMC doing?”
The concerns are not unfounded. Experts have consistently linked stagnant water in clogged drains and construction sites to mosquito breeding. The rise in cases of mosquito-borne diseases like dengue has only added to the urgency of addressing these issues
However, talking to GPlus, a senior official from the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) told GPlus, “We are actively fogging the affected areas and also when we receive complaints. Our teams are dedicated to this task, and we respond to all complaints by conducting fogging operations.”
