Amidst the ongoing air quality crisis in the country, Guwahati’s AQI falls in the “satisfactory” category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). This is in stark contrast to Delhi, where the AQI reached an alarming level of 495, categorised as “severe-plus.”
Assam’s Nagaon also registered an AQI of 30, categorising itself under the “good” status, while Nalbari fell under the “satisfactory” category as well, with an AQI rating of 61.
As winter deepens, air pollution across northern and central India has worsened, with cities like Delhi, Bhopal (AQI 210), and Chennai (AQI 238) registering hazardous pollution levels. In Delhi, the toxic haze has turned skies grey, disrupted daily life, and forced schools to switch to online classes.
Relatively, Guwahati continues to enjoy less polluted air, thanks to its geography, forest cover, and lower industrial emissions compared to the ongoing air quality crisis plaguing central India. Alongside Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram also emerged as a clean-air city with an AQI of 65.
