More than 3 Lakh ‘Ghost’ Children found Enrolled in Schools under SSA

GUWAHATI: More than three lakh enrolled students registered during the former Congress regime were identified as 'ghost children’ in government schools under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), an official release said.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, recently reviewed the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), in elementary, secondary and teacher education departments, at Janata Bhawan in which the revelation was made.

The education department officials said that the previous government had shown these fake figures of fictitious students in government schools of the state in order to steal public money allocated for textbooks, mid-day meals and uniforms.
 
Education minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya was also present in this meeting. Taking a serious view of the corrupt practice, Sonowal said that strict action would be initiated against those found guilty. Sonowal made further announcements in the meeting regarding sports and physical education grant as well as the three months self-defence training in government schools for empowering the girl child.
