Modi Inaugurates 125-Ft Statue Of Lachit Borphukon  

 

GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a 125-foot tall statue of Ahom General Lachit Borphukon at Jorhat, on March 9. 

The statue stands at a height of 84 feet on a pedestal 41 feet high. The statue was built at a cost of ₹215 crore and is situated at the resting place of Borphukon at the Lachit Borphukon Maidam in Holongapar, Jorhat.

The Lachit Borphukon Maidam also features a museum dedicated to Lachit Borphukon and Tai Ahom, along with a 500-seat auditorium. 

It was unveiled in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Modi praised the Ahom general and said, "Veer Lachit Borphukan is the symbol of Assam’s valor and determination." 

During the day, Modi also laid the foundation stone for several projects in Assam including the Sivasagar Medical College & Hospital and a Hemato-Lymphoid Center in Guwahati, along with various projects in the oil and gas sector including the capacity expansion of Digboi Refinery and Guwahati Refinery Expansion, and the installation of Catalytic Reforming Unit (CRU), among others.
