Miscreants assault journalist in Mukalmua, Nalbari

GUWAHATI: A group of miscreants attacked a journalist, Rajen Deka, who works for one of the oldest Assamese dailies, Dainik Assam, in Mukalmua, Nalbari.

Deka was attacked yesterday night, April 25 when he was on his way back home.

The miscreants reportedly attacked him with sharp weapons with an intention to murder him. After the attack, Deka was left by the side of the road in an unconscious condition.

The gruesome attack has led Deka to sustain several injuries on the back of his head and hand.  

After being treated at a local hospital in Mukalmua, the journalist was later shifted to Guwahati Medical College (GMC). 

Police have already initiated investigation to search for the miscreants. As per reports, the attack was allegedly carried out by BJP party workers.

It is to be mentioned that Assam CM, Sarbananda Sonowal has condemned the attack on the journalist and asked Assam DGP, Kuladhar Saikia, to investigate the matter.

In a separate incident, a Tinsukia-based television journalist, Upasana Barua Goswami, was allegedly attacked by four miscreants at a local restaurant. The miscreants were reportedly drunk when the attack took place on April 25.

Goswami alleged that the miscreants tried to misbehave with her when she visited the restaurant with her husband. 

Post the incident, the journalist lodged a complaint, based on which the police arrested Pramod Gogoi, Pragjyoti Das, Dhananjay Dutta and Dwipan Sonowal.
