GUWAHATI: A month ago, a 15-year-old girl went missing from Guwahati when she left home to go to a nearby shop to buy some edibles. The family went into a frenzy, unable to locate their daughter and ultimately filed an FIR at the Paltan Bazar Police Station. However, the father of the daughter has alleged that the police have only made him go in circles throughout the process without actually helping him locate his daughter.
On October 10, a 15-year-old girl who resides in Rehabari told her father that she was going out to get some edibles. That was the last time, the family saw the girl, at around 9:45 PM.
Unable to find the girl, the whole family went out looking in the streets and at around 2:30 AM finally decided to go to Paltan Bazar Police Station to file a Missing Person’s report. A copy of the report and a photo were also distributed to the GRPF personnel at the Guwahati Railway Station with the hope that they could locate her.
Ever since that day, the parents of the minor have been going to the police station in hope but only to get disappointed over and over again.
Talking to GPlus, the father of the minor, Santosh Roy shared some insight into the incident, “My daughter went out to buy a packet of Maggi. Upon returning she said that she dropped some money and went out looking for it on the streets. That was the last time we saw her.”
“We have been going to the police station religiously every other day but the officials are only pushing us from one table to another,” the father further said.
Not getting any help from the authorities, the parents started their own search. Upon investigating they found out about a boy named Pritam Rana from Muzaffarpur, Bihar who told them “your daughter is safe wherever she is”.
“I gave this information to the Paltan Bazar PS but they didn’t pay any heed,” Roy said.
Santosh, then himself went to Bihar to find his daughter and even approached the Bihar Police.
“After reaching the village where that boy left, the locals there said there are chances of two boys involved in this case – Vikas Rana and Pritam Rana. I approached the Bihar Police and sought their helped, but they too said that they can only help if an official from Assam Police is there with them during the operation,” Santosh further said.
The father told GPlus that he had also approached ADCP Central, Nandini Kakati who questioned the Officer-in-charge of Paltan Bazar Police Station but still there was no help.
On asking when they visited the PS last, the girl’s mother, Rekha Roy joined in and said, “We went to the Police Station on Monday last, when the OC again told us to give our information and number to different personnel. This has been going on for a month now.”
While talking to GPlus, the Officer-In-Charge of Paltan Bazar Police Station said, “Investigation is going on but we are having difficulty pinpointing the location of the numbers that the girl’s father has provided us with.”
“Some numbers are pinging from Bangalore, some from Muzaffarpur and others from some other part of Bihar. The moment we catch a break we will take immediate steps,” The OC further added.
While talking to GPlus, ADCP Central, Nandini Kakati said, “The mother provided us with a number, but the call detail report couldn't trace it as we believe the suspects must've changed or thrown away the sim, however, a thorough investigation has taken place."
It has been 30 days today and the girl is yet to be found.
