Ministry of Tourism sanctions Rs 98.35 crores for a Heritage Circuit in Assam

To promote the Tourism sector of Assam, the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India has sanctioned an amount of Rs 98.35 crore for a Heritage Circuit in Assam. Union Minister of State for Tourism and Culture Dr Mahesh Sarma announced this while taking part in a meeting with Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday. The amount has been sanctioned for the development of tourism sectors of Tezpur, Majuli, Sivasagar, under the scheme of Swadesh Darshan, and for the development of a composite tourist infrastructure in Majuli. The amount will be executed for the improvisation of log huts, Kamalabari Ghat, cafeteria, elevated walkway, landscaping etc. Development of Rangghar, Talatal Ghar, Joysagar tank will also be considered under the sanctioned amount. As a major development move in the tourism sector, the Ministry of Tourism has decided to transfer the rights of Brahmaputra Ashok Hotel, currently managed by India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) to the Government of Assam. The formalities of the transfer of rights will be executed with the next 15 days. The Tourism Minstry has also decided to work for development of Majuli and enlist it in the prestigious list of World heritage Site. During a meeting held on Sunday, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has expressed his gratitude to the Government of India for the cooperation, and also submitted a memorandum to the Union Tourism Minister on various issues concerning development or tourism sector.
