GUWAHATI: The Kamrup (Metropolitan) Administration has, through an order on December 13, designated an area that houses the Central Secretariat, Assam Legislative Assembly and MLA Hostel as a ‘Protected Area’. The order is issued by Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha and the stated objective is to regulate the entry of unauthorised persons into these areas.
The boundaries of the newly declared Protected Area are:
East - Southern side of the G.S. Road starting from Ganeshguri Flyover up to Super Market Police Point.
South - 60 ft road staring from Super Market Police Point to Last Gate.
West - From Last Gate along the R.P. Road up to the entry point Assam Legislative Assembly
North - From Ganesh Mandir up to Ganeshguri Chariali.
As per the order of the deputy commissioner no person or group of persons, except the bona fide residents and public servants shall enter into or stay in or pass over or loiter in or around the scheduled area in the vicinity thereof without prior permission from the District Magistrate, Kamrup Metropolitan or any officer duly authorized by him on his behalf or the Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, or the Secretary, Assam Legislative Assembly or an officer duly authorized by him.
Violation of this order by any person shall be liable to be punished under Sub-Section ST of Section 8 F of the Act.
The order is not applicable to the bona fide residents and public servants of the Assam Civil Secretariat and other offices attached to the Assam Civil Secretariat with or without arms, ammunitions explosives substances and weapons of any nature, either in vehicles or any means of transport only after due verification.
