According to the student himself, Zaman boarded the train to go to Dhubri from Guwahati’s Paltan Bazar station and the pregnant lady along with her family got up on the train from the Kamakhya station, a while later. At around 3:30 AM, as the train reached Kokrajhar, the lady started experiencing labour pains along with severe contractions.
Seeing the severity of the situation, Akhiruz Zaman decided to take matters into his own hands. Firstly that immediate coach was made into a makeshift delivery station, as all the male passengers were shifted to a different coach temporarily. And then with the help of two women present at the scene who acted as midwives, Zaman delivered the baby by vaginal method. As he had just finished some assignments and exams, he had some medical equipment with him which he used during the delivery.
The baby and mother both have been reported to be safe post-delivery and were later provided proper medical assistance.
