GUWAHATI: The Assam Government has announced that the Manipuri Mayek script will be soon introduced in the educational institutes of Assam.

The move will allow students to learn the Manipuri Mayek or Meitei script and enable them to read Manipuri literature and pursue higher studies in Meitei.
The decision will also allow candidates from Assam to apply for jobs in Manipur that require compulsory knowledge of Meitei/Mayek script.

The decision was taken by the Assam government in the Cabinet meeting held yesterday, along with several other key decisions like the establishment of a new Medical College and Hospital in Karimganj.
