Recently, in a letter to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, the association proposed that there be a mutual arrangement that governs transport operations across state borders. The association insisted on clear terms and conditions as both Meghalaya and Assam would equally benefit from the said partnership, according to reports.
Furthermore, the organisation streamlined traveling by establishing the Meghalaya Motor Vehicle and Taxation Rules that would standardise the activities of vehicles and their taxes in the entire region. They also proposed the establishment of 24-hour information centres at strategic travel centers like the Guwahati airport, Shillong airport located in Umroi, as well as the Guwahati railway station, providing much-needed information to visitors.
AKMTTA for easier travel proposed that check posts be installed at all entry points of tourist destinations where permits would be issued and tourism facilitated. According to them, these steps would promote hassle-free travel for visitors and would address the practical issues related to the livelihood of local taxi owners and drivers.
Instead of restricting the movement of vehicles from other states, AKMTTA suggested a system for the commercial vehicles to drop the tourists at certain points where local drivers would collect and take them to the tourist places.
