Manipur Governor Issues 7-Day Ultimatum To Surrender Illegal Arms Amid President’s Rule

 

GUWAHATI: Manipur Governor, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, issued an ultimatum on Thursday, February 20, urging the people of Manipur from both the Valley and Hills to voluntarily surrender all illegally held weapons and ammunition within the next seven days. This appeal follows more than 20 months of unrest that has caused immense hardship for the people of the state.

In his appeal, the Governor emphasised the need for all communities, especially the youth, to come forward and return looted and illegally held weapons to the nearest police station, outpost, or security forces camp. 

He assured the public that no punitive action would be taken if the weapons are returned within the next seven days. However, he warned that strict legal action would follow after the deadline for those still in possession of such weapons.

Governor Bhalla stressed the importance of this initiative in restoring peace and maintaining order in the state. He reiterated the government's commitment to resolving the situation peacefully and safeguarding the future of Manipur's youth.
