Meet Ranu Mondal, Kolkata’s Train Station Singing Sensation Records Her First Song

GUWAHATI: A two-minute video of Ranu Maria Mondal, which went viral on the internet for her rendition of a Lata Mangeshkar song, has a fairytale story with a belief that miracles do happen.

The 59 yr old, grey haired with a heart warming voice, who was singing "Ek Pyaar ka Nagma hai" in a crinkled blue sari – with the sound of trains in the background – perfectly hitting all the notes at the railway station of West Bengal took the internet by storm with her melodic voice.

What could be more blissful for Mondal when she was approached by Himesh Reshammiya to record a song for his next movie, Happy Hardy and Heer after he was convinced with her voice in a reality show, 'Superstar Singer' where Mondal is currently a participant.

The 26-year-old engineer Atindra Chakraborty, who filmed Mondal’s fate-changing video, told India Today, “It was a chance encounter. I was hanging out with my friends at a tea stall on platform No 6. A Rafi song was playing in the radio aloud. Suddenly I heard the lady humming to the tune, as she sat on the platform floor. I asked her if she could sing something for us,” and the rest is history.

Excited social media users were all praise for Mondal’s pro-level singing and Reshammiya’s offer.
