MBRS HOSTS CBSE CRYPTIC CROSSWORD CONTEST (CCCC-2016)

The City Round CBSE Cryptic Crossword Contest 2016 has been hosted by Miles Bronson Residential School, Borjhar, Guwahati on 11th August, 2016. Encompassing NE region including city schools, a number of 12 schools had participated this prestigious contest including the host school which are as follows: DPS, Nagira; Sainik School, Goalpara; Army Public School, Narengi; Maria’s Public School, Ghy; South Point School, Ghy; NPS International School, Ghy; Royal Global School, Ghy; Godwin School, Ghy; St. Mary’s, Maligaon; Pragjyotish School, Ghy; Gurukul Grammar Senior Secondary School, Ghy and the host school MBRS, Borjhar. The contest that consists of 2 rounds is being conducted in 37 cities across the country from Srinagar in North to Cochin in South and from East at Guwahati to West at Gujarat. The city round contest started during the month of April, 2016 and will be over by 1st week of September 2016.   Crossword puzzles help students to enhance their lateral thinking, reasoning thinking and analytical abilities. Deciphering solutions from the given clues help young minds to develop cognitive skills such as making inferences, evaluating alternatives and drawing conclusions. Learning becomes enjoyable as different mental faculties are challenged and solving a crossword puzzle results in a sense of personal achievement, which is vital for personality development. Crossword is also an interesting and effective educational tool for a student and teacher alike.   The puzzle contest met a climax with gusto on the same day afternoon. Royal Global School, Guwahati emerges as the winner where as Maria’s Public School, Birkuchi occupied the runner up position. The Chief Guest cum City Patron of the event Dr. N.K. Dutta, Founder & Principal, MBRS had given away the prizes to the rank holders and participation certificates to all contestants. In the curtain down event of CCCC 2016, Dr. Dutta congratulated all the participants for their zeal and endeavor for crossword and emphasized on the importance of the crossword puzzle to build vocabulary, thinking and logical skills and sharpen the brain. The national coordinator of the programme Mr. Raj Narayan Singh greatly reflected and appreciated the latent talents of NE students. He also added that the winner school has now qualified for the grand finale which will be held in December 2016 at New Delhi.  The CCCC 2016 has a world record of participation of more than 800 schools. Nowhere else in the world such a contest on an unprecedented level has ever taken place as far as crossword is concerned. The contest is open for students of all recognized school boards be it ICSE, State Boards or any private recognized boards.
