GUWAHATI: Bandana Kalita, the prime accused in the double murder case involving the killing of her husband and mother-in-law in Guwahati's Noonmati, has been granted bail, as confirmed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Guwahati, to GPlus.
The Kamrup Metropolitan District and Sessions Judge Court, after hearing case number 91/23, issued bail for Bandana Kalita, along with her accomplice Dhanti Deka.
However, the court's decision comes with a set of specific terms and conditions.
Under the court's ruling, Bandana Kalita is required to present herself at the Noonmati Police Station twice a week, ensuring her regular reporting as part of the bail conditions.
Furthermore, she has been prohibited from leaving her district without prior court approval.
The case involves Bandana Kalita, who stands accused of masterminding the murder of her husband, Amarjyoti Dey, and her mother-in-law, Shankari Dey, with the assistance of her accomplices Arup Deka and Dhanti Deka in July 2022.
The crime saw the trio not only take the lives of the mother-son duo but also dismember their bodies. Subsequently, they disposed of the body parts in the neighbouring state of Meghalaya.
The motives behind the murders are believed to be linked to an extramarital affair that the accused woman was involved in.
The case has undergone extensive investigations, and the Guwahati Police made significant progress by recovering several missing body parts of the deceased Amarjyoti Dey during search operations in Meghalaya's Dawki.
After three months of thorough investigations, the police compiled a comprehensive charge sheet against Bandana Kalita and her two accomplices.
It's worth noting that last month, Bandana's second accomplice, Arup Deka, was also granted bail, further adding to the complexity and ongoing legal proceedings surrounding this shocking murder case.
