The landslide, triggered by continuous rainfall in the region over the past few days, caused a section of the highway connecting Anini in Dibang Valley district to Roing in Lower Dibang Valley to be washed away entirely. Images of the affected area depict a substantial crevice in the highway, rendering it impassable.

According to reports, the landslide occurred due to the incessant rainfall, prompting the Deputy Commissioner of the Dibang Valley district to issue an advisory on Wednesday night.

The advisory urged people to refrain from using the road until it is restored and normal rainfall patterns resume.

The restoration work is expected to take at least three days, as per reports.

The disruption in connectivity is anticipated to significantly impact the region, located in the northeasternmost corner of Arunachal Pradesh, which shares a border with China to the north.

Expressing concern over the inconvenience caused to commuters, Chief Minister Pema Khandu took to the social media platform X to assure swift action. He stated, "Disturbed to learn the inconvenience being caused to commuters due to the extensive damage to the highway between Hunli and Anini. Instructions have been issued to restore the connectivity at the earliest as this road connects Dibang Valley to the rest of the country."
