GUWAHATI: Commuters faced severe traffic congestion along the 9 Mile-Khanapara stretch on National Highway 27 (NH-27) on Thursday, February 6, with vehicles stranded for hours due to a massive gridlock. The jam extended from Khanapara rotary to beyond the 9 Mile CRPF camp, causing significant delays and inconvenience.

According to eyewitnesses, the congestion began early in the morning and worsened as the day progressed. The traffic bottleneck left motorists struggling to navigate the stretch, with concerns raised over the movement of emergency vehicles.
"The condition is very shocking. If there is an ambulance stuck in this jam, it will be extremely difficult for the patient. It could take hours to clear the gridlock," said Sagar Das, a commuter caught in the chaos.
Another motorist attributed the congestion to ongoing construction work on the stretch, which has restricted road space and led to slow-moving traffic. The absence of adequate traffic management further compounded the issue.
Efforts from GPlus to seek a response from the Khanapara Outpost traffic authorities remained unanswered at the time of reporting. Meanwhile, commuters have urged authorities to intervene and ensure smoother traffic movement in the area.
The Khanapara-9 Mile corridor remains one of the busiest stretches in Guwahati, serving as a key route for both local and intercity commuters. With ongoing infrastructure work, motorists fear that traffic woes could persist unless effective measures are put in place.
