Mary Kom rewrites history by winning World Boxing Championship

GUWAHATI: Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte, better known as Mary Kom, won the Gold Medal in the World Boxing Championship on 24 November. 

She defeated Hanna Okhota from Ukraine in the final match in 48kg flyweight class category. Mary Kom has rewritten history with this win by clinching her 6th World title. 

35-year-old Mary Kom has become the first ever boxer to win six AIBA Women's Boxing Championship titles. She has previously won world championship gold medals in 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2010.

The Manipuri boxer is now the joint most successful boxer (Men and Women) in the history of World Championships, tied with Cuban legend Felix Savon. Savon had won six gold medals and a silver medal at the World Championships during his illustrious boxing career.
