Mary Kom Loses Semi-Finals, Settles For Bronze At World Boxing Championship

GUWAHATI: Six-time world champion Mary Kom lost her semi-final bout against Turkish Busenaz Cakiroglu at the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championship in Russia’s Ulan-Ude on Saturday, October 12. As a result, she will now have to settle for a bronze medal.

Turkish Busenaz defeated the 36-year-old 4-1 in the 51-kg-category. This was Mary Kom’s eighth world medal and she is the only boxer to achieve this feat.

Later today, India’s Lovlina Borgohain, Jamuna Boro and Manju Rani are scheduled to play their respective semi-final bouts.
