GUWAHATI: An alleged kingpin in illegal trade and rhino poaching in Assam, Thangouchin V Khamkhopau, was apprehended by Manipur police officials and handed over to Bokakhat police station on Monday, July 12.
Official Twitter handle of Churachandpur District Police, Manipur, confirmed the news and tweeted, "Extending Inter-State cooperation for the purpose of crime prevention, District Police apprehended & handed over one suspected Rhino poacher Mr. Thangouchin V Khamkhopau to Bokahat PS team, Golaghat Dist, Assam."
In return for the goodwill shown by the Manipur police toward the preservation of the treasured one-horned rhinos, the Director-General of Police (DGP) of Assam, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, expressed his gratitude.
"Thank You! We consider this Thangouchin as a kingpin in the illegal trade and also the leader of the Biswanath Poacher Gang which is responsible for the last two poaching cases in Kohora. A great step forward to save our rhinos. #SaveRhinos #AssamRhino", Mahanta wrote.
