Man Surrenders With Wife’s Severed Head In Assam’s Chirang, Probe Underway

GUWAHATI: A man from Assam's Chirang district surrendered to police authorities on Sunday, April 20, after allegedly beheading his wife. He arrived at the Ballamguri police outpost carrying her severed head in a sack and informed the station’s residing officers of the incident.

Identified as British Hajong from Uttar Ballamguri, the accused's surrender led to a team from Bijni Police Station being dispatched to the crime location for verification and investigation.

According to police sources, the accused is currently being interrogated, and further details will be shared after the preliminary questioning is completed. The identity of the deceased woman has not been disclosed at this stage.

“This is an unfortunate incident,” Rashmirekha Sarma, Chirang Additional Superintendent of Police, told reporters. “We are carrying out our investigation at the moment; a forensic team has arrived as well. We will be able to disclose full information after the investigation comes to an end.”

The woman’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination, while a case has been registered under relevant sections, as legal procedures are underway.
