GUWAHATI: An individual has been sentenced to imprisonment on charges of sexual assault on his daughter along with mental and physical torture on his spouse, as of a judgement passed by the Additional Sessions Judge cum Special Judge (POCSO), Kamrup(Metro) on February 5.
The individual identified as Nani Gopal Debnath has been sentenced to 2 years in rigorous imprisonment for offenses under Section 506 IPC and Section 12 of the POCSO Act, 2012.
The case stemmed from a complaint filed on June 9, 2020, by the victim's mother, accusing Debnath of mental and physical torture on her and an attempted sexual assault on their daughter.
The Fatasil Ambari Police Station registered the case which charges included the accused's attempt to marry his second daughter, posing a grave threat to his wife and daughter.
After careful consideration of all aspects, the court sentenced Nani Gopal Debnath to 2 years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 506 IPC.
Additionally, he faces another 2 years in jail, coupled with a fine of Rs. ₹5000, and three months of simple imprisonment for the offense under Section 12 of the POCSO Act, 2012.
Both sentences are to run concurrently.
