A 50-year-old man was arrested by Satgaon police on Friday on the charges of killing his wife and burying her body atop a hill in the Amchang-Jorabat area.
ACP (Noonmati) Purabi Mazumdar said the husband, one Babul Pantati, had brutally assaulted his wife Meena on Wednesday. “Yesterday, she was again assaulted with lathis and her body was buried atop a hill. We received the information around 11 pm last night and rushed to the spot. The place of crime was cordoned off and a guard was kept there till morning. This morning, in presence of a magistrate, the body was exhumed,” she said.
The exact cause of the murder is not yet known, but the police said Babul was suspicious of his wife’s activities.
The ACP added that besides Babul, two of his accomplices – Bishnu Chabar and David Kujur – were also arrested. And it’s suspected that two/three more people helped Babul in the crime. Hunt is on to nab them. The weapons used to commit the crime were also seized.
