GUWAHATI: A man has been arrested on Tuesday, November 15 in the Dhekiajuli area of Sonitpur district, Assam after allegedly attempting to rape a 14-year-old girl and strangling her to death.
The 42-year-old accused was a neighbor of the girl and has been identified as Hajarat Ali, a resident of the Bhakuamari village in Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur district. Ali was arrested by the Dhekiajuli Police on November 16.
Speaking to G Plus, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Dhekiajuli Police Station said, “The girl was sleeping at her house in Bhakuamari village. Hajarat Ali, taking advantage of the absence of the other family members, entered the house, and attempted to rape the girl. When she woke up, and started screaming, out of fear Ali strangled her to death.”
When the police visited the site, a case of unnatural death was registered. During the investigation, as per police’s suspicion, Hajarat Ali was brought for interrogation on the same day. Hajarat later confessed to his crime, and the police arrested him on Wednesday, November 16.
Legal action has been initiated. Further details are awaited.
