The accused had been attempting to extort money from students by demanding false registration and insurance fees.

Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu addressed the issue on his social media handle, X, emphasising that the Scooty Award Scheme is completely free. He clarified that there are no fees or duties associated with the award.

Pegu urged students to remain vigilant and avoid responding to calls or messages from unknown sources. He also advised students to report any suspicious fundraising attempts to the Assam police immediately.

Further investigations are ongoing to prevent additional fraudulent activities.
