Man arrested for derogatory Social Media post against CM Sonowal

GUWAHATI: The Bharalumukh police on 21 November arrested one Pranob Borah (23) from Bharalumukh area of Guwahati for allegedly making derogatory comments against Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal, on social media.

The accused is an app-based share taxi driver and hails from Kakojan in Jorhat district, police said.

“We detected the derogatory post on social media on Tuesday and lodged a suo motu case. After tracing his location, we arrested him this morning,” OC of the Bharalumukh Police Station Monikanta Chamuah said. Bora was booked under section 153B of IPC (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and section 66A of IT act, and later sent to judicial custody.
