GUWAHATI: A miscreant identified as Arun Yadav, who has been charged of stealing over 200 vehicles in the past two months in Guwahati, is currently on-the-run.

Yadav, a resident of Guwahati’s VIP Road area, was running a car rental service in the city along with three of his accomplices, Sanjeev Singh, Lenin Phukan, and Tipu.

"Lenin Phukan is one of the main culprits in the racquet. He has run away after illegally mortgaging our vehicles," a victim told G Plus in condition of anonymity.

Many Guwahatians rented out their cars and bikes to him and after receiving rents for a couple of months, they stopped hearing from Yadav.

Multiple cases have been registered against Yadav at Bharalumukh PS, Dispur PS as well as Crime Branch.

"Several two wheelers and four wheeler have been stolen in the past month. We have been successful in recovering some of the vehicles and further investigation is further going on," Deepak Kumar, Commissioner of Police informed G Plus.

On November 4, Sanjeev Singh was arrested from Siliguri, Kumar added.

Police investigation has revealed that the accused had sold off most of the cars in other states of the Northeast and Yadav's key aide in running the racket was his son-in-law Homen Doley from Golaghat, who is also on the run.

Meanwhile, an award of Rs. 50,000 has been announced by the owners of the stolen vehicles, for anyone who provides any information regarding him.
