GUWAHATI: Maligaon residents have been dealing with the aftermath of rectification work that the Jal Board started for the past week due to a valve defect resulting in a scarcity of water. This has become a major concern for the locality.
Angshuman Dey, a resident of Maligaon, shed light on the root cause of the crisis, pointing out, "A pipeline in a drain near Jalukbari area is the main reason. Due to a faulty valve, drinking water is getting mixed with the drain water, adding the distress of the residents."
The situation has escalated to the point where basic amenities are becoming a luxury for the affected people in the area. With over 80 per cent of families resorting to buying water, a sense of insecurity looms large over the community.
Councillor Ajay Chakraborty, representing the ward, acknowledged the ongoing challenges, said, "The work is still in progress. As the pipe is laid down in the drain, delays are inevitable. We are making efforts to alleviate the suffering by providing GMC water supply and boring water to the residents."
While speaking to GPlus, officials from the Jal Board assured that the rectification process is underway. Shedding light on the situation, an official remarked, "The process was initiated to rectify a valve defect, which unfortunately escalated the problem. We anticipate the completion of the work within the next 2-3 days."
With the ongoing repair work, the residents of Maligaon remain hopeful for a resolution to the water scarcity issue that has disrupted their daily lives.
