This move precedes the announcement of Lok Sabha election dates as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is eyeing a third term in the world's largest democracy, facing challenges of inflation, a common concern during general elections globally. The INDIA opposition bloc has censured the BJP government for its perceived inability to tackle the rising prices, especially in regions where petrol costs surpass ₹100 per litre. The Congress has also expressed apprehensions about the surging LPG prices, placing considerable strain on household budgets.

In this context, PM Narendra Modi took to X to put out, “Today, on Women's Day, our Government has decided to reduce LPG cylinder prices by Rs. 100. This will significantly ease the financial burden on millions of households across the country, especially benefiting our Nari Shakti.  By making cooking gas more affordable, we also aim to support the well-being of families and ensure a healthier environment. This is in line with our commitment to empowering women and ensuring ‘Ease of Living’ for them.”
