Lok Sabha Votes in Favour of Citizenship Amendment Bill

GUWAHATI: Amidst protests across Assam, the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill has been passed in the Lok Sabha.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah introduced the bill in the Lok Sabha the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill that seeks to grant Indian citizenship to non-Muslim refugees from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan escaping religious persecution there.

The Citizenship Amendment Bill 2019 has been introduced in the Lok Sabha with 293 Ayes and 82 Nos.

Amit shah said, "If Congress had not done the division of the country on the basis of religion, Citizenship Amendment Bill would not have been needed today"

It is to be mentioned that only 375 members were present in the house  today, meanwhile opposition said legislation violates of Article 14 of Constitution.
