GUWAHATI: Assam would be allowing 100 percent shops to open for the fourth phase of the lockdown except those located in shopping malls, said Kumar Sanjay Krishna, Chief Secretary to Assam Government in a media interaction.

Earlier, only stand-alone shops were allowed to open, and for market places, alternate day opening policy was followed in Guwahati.

However, as of 18th May, all shops can resume operation provided they follow the COVID-19 protocols of maintaining social distancing and hygiene.

"If any shop is found to be crowded and not following social distancing, customers, as well as the shop owner, will be charged. The shop owner will be the person responsible and it may lead to suspension of the shop license," said DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, who was also briefing the press.
