Lock-downs Not Enough to Counter Coronavirus, Warns WHO

GUWAHATI: With the cities around the world go into full/partial lock down, experts at the World Health Organization (WHO) feels that lock-down alone is not enough to combat COVID-19.

Dr Mike Ryan, WHO said, "What we really need to focus on is finding those who are sick, those who have the virus, and isolate them, find their contacts and isolate them," in an interview on the BBC's Andrew Marr Show.

"The danger right now with the lockdowns ... if we don't put in place the strong public health measures now, when those movement restrictions and lockdowns are lifted, the danger is the disease will jump back up."

In India, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir and Chandigarh are among the states and Union territories that have been completely brought under lockdown till March 31.
