GUWAHATI: Residents in the Kakatigaon locality, of Tarajan town in Jorhat, Assam, rescued an abandoned infant early on November 14 morning.
The incident unfolded when the locals heard the baby crying from the midst of a field.
Responding to the sound, a group of locals discovered the abandoned infant and alerted the local police about the discovery.
The infant was then taken to the Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH) for urgent medical attention.
The identity of the infant's parents and the circumstances leading to the abandonment remain unknown at this time.
While speaking to GPlus, the Officer-In-Charge of the Tarajan Police Station stated that the baby is now safe and being treated at the JMCH.
An investigation has been initiated to identify the parents, further details will be reported as they become available.
