Large Fish Feed Mill Inaugurated In South Salmara

 

GUWAHATI: Assam's Fisheries Minister, Parimal Suklabaidya, marked a significant milestone as he inaugurated a state-of-the-art large fish feed mill with a capacity of 2-3 tonnes per hour. The inauguration ceremony was held in South Salmara.

Constructed under the CSS scheme at a total cost of ₹199.50 lakh, the fish feed mill is poised to meet the increasing demand for fish feed locally. Minister Suklabaidya unveiled the ambitious plan of the Fisheries Department to achieve a local production capacity of 2 lakh MT of feed by 2026 through the establishment of similar fish feed mills.

Applauding the achievements of Assam in the fisheries sector, Minister Suklabaidya highlighted Assam's remarkable feat of achieving self-sufficiency in fish production and surplus production in fish seed production, positioning the state as a leader in the industry.

Expressing optimism, Minister Suklabaidya affirmed that the newly inaugurated large fish feed mill would play a pivotal role in meeting the needs of fish farmers not only in the district but also across the state. He extended the scope even further, stating that the mill is expected to cater to the requirements of fish farmers in Meghalaya and even Bangladesh.

During the inauguration event, Minister Suklabaidya took note of the satisfaction and gratitude expressed by one of the beneficiaries, Swapan Sutradhar. Sutradhar acknowledged the support extended by the Fisheries Department, particularly the subsidy of ₹119.50 lakh provided under the CSS scheme for his project.
